Title: The Itching Scars
Author: Mohy Omar
Date: May 9th 2017
The Itching Scars by Mohy Omar is a collection of 3 short stories. While being very different in their contents, the stories have a thing in common: Death. Or better, the caducity of the human being.
In fact, Death plays a major part in everyone’s life; be it a savior or be it a cruel fate.
The first short story centers a boy who has seen many around him dying and does not fear Death.
The second one is set in the future. After the Hate War, the population has fallen in a world led by pleasure. God doesn’t exist and those who still pray to him are persecuted.
The last short story is about a boy, John, who is haunted by a demon who wants him to tell him his greatest sin.
I liked the short stories, but I wanted them to be longer. I know they are called short for a reason, but I think it would have been better if the stories had had more parts and more characterisation of the main characters. And sometimes I was a little confused by the story and what was happening, especially in the third short story.
It may be unsuitable for younger readers as it has some explicit content, but not very descriptive.
The writing style is fine, it has you hooked up since the first lines and I liked the protagonists. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
I recommend it to those who don’t want to read heavy books and want a quick read.
